About this School Project (4th grade Imaginary Portraits)
In 4th grade, students have been exploring correct proportions in portrait drawing. Students watched a video, were given visual resources, and participated in a step-by-step demonstration that divided parts of the face into halves and fourths. Next students learned where to draw each facial feature, how to draw each feature in a realistic way, and made creative choices about hair and background details.
Students included the following in their artwork:
-Measurement lines to show the proportions of the face
-Their face with appropriate characteristics (head, eyes, hair, nose, ears, neck and shoulders, etc.)
-The eyes should be halfway between the top of the head and the bottom of the chin
-The nose should be halfway between the eyes and chin
-The mouth should be between the nose and chin and approximately as wide as the pupils of the eyes
-Personal details and imaginary features (hair type and texture, expression, clothing, accessories, etc.)
-Optional background details could be abstract, include a real place, or an imaginary place
