Artist Statement (what Liz1254 said about their artwork)
The toughest part about cross hatching was knowing when to stop and doing the background because I wasn’t confident on when it was enough. The one that I think, I did my best on was my shadows and transitions because I think that I did get better getting to the third and fourth pear and my transitions look very smooth compared when I first started and my shadows behind it looks good.
About this School Project (Crosshatch Still-Life)
Intro to Art students studied the work of Albrecht Durer in preparation for this project. Durer was a German Renaissance artist who used amazing intricate crosshatching lines in his prints. Students developed their own crosshatching style through various drawing exercises. After becoming comfortable with the technique, students selected a single object and rotated it four times to create this project. Crosshatching was done with metallic markers on black paper. Their goal to accurately show highlights, reflected lights, crest and cast shadows through crosshatching.
