About this School Project (Charley Harper Forest)
Charley Harper was an American naturalist who liked to paint animals in a simplified fashion, with a little humor. This is known as 'minimalism', where the artist includes enough detail to recognize the object, but doesn't make the artwork realistic. 3rd grade made forests using 3 of the four neutral colors, and learned how to make a variety of grays by adding more black paint to white. They also created space by making the trees lighter, smaller, and higher when they are far away, and larger when they are up close. Lastly, they created animals in the style of Charley Harper: simplified, but identifiable, with a little bit of humor included.
