About this School Project (2nd Mariposas)
Studying the fall migration of monarch butterflies to Mexico inspired us to look at the work of two Hispanic artists who have used the insect as subject matter in their art. Lourdes Villagomez (from Mexico City) and Romero Britto (Brazilian, working in Miami) both use bright colors, lines, shapes and patterns to create their vibrant work. Our symmetrical butterflies were painted with tints and shades, filled with patterns, then mounted on decorative backgrounds.
