About this School Project (Mo Willems Turkey)
Students read the story Pigeon Wants a Puppy written and illustrated by Mo Willems. For their project we discussed how simple shapes and lines are used in Mo Willems illustrations to create his characters. When we put shapes and lines together, they can create a picture of something recognizable to others. Students practiced by drawing a Mo Willems pigeon and added feathers to its body to turn it into a turkey. Students used oil pastel to trace over their pencil lines and used the oil resist method to paint their shapes. They used watercolor paint, and painted the feathers in rainbow color order.
