About this School Project (2nd Grade Dragons)
This is one of my favorite projects because it is loaded with creativity.
The 2nd graders use their creativity to imagine what a dragon looks like. We talked about the unique features of a dragon; wings, spikes, eyes, tails, etc. The students practiced simple body shapes and picked their favorite to create their very own dragon. Body Shapes can vary; the most common are ovals, half circles, kidney bean or S-shaped. they practiced drawing these shapes. They drew their favorite shape in the middle of the paper and added in the head with eyes, a mouth… maybe the dragon has fire coming from his mouth. Students added in wings and maybe a tail with spikes. They used colored pencil to color in the dragon. They are instructed not to use too many colors or they tend to get very busy. They are building on their butterfly lesson. We were careful to choose only three or four colors that work well together. Lastly they shaded the background with a broken peeled crayons to create a soft atmosphere for their dragon masterpiece.
