About this School Project (1st Grade - Line Design Windsocks)

First grade continued their study of how Art Communicates through the use of lines by creating their own line design windsock. We began by brainstorming and drawing a variety of 5 lines across our page. We used liquid watercolors to paint the primary colors in every other space of the design. We read the book Mouse Paint, which tells a story about how three white mice came across jars of the primary color paints. They mixed the paints to create the secondary colors. Using this knowledge, students mixed the primary colors to create the secondary colors in each of the remaining spaces on their paper. Once the paint dried, students glued 5 streamers to the bottom of the paper, which were reinforced using masking tape. Mr. Blair and Ms. Doyle came around and helped curl the paper into a cylinder and stapled the ends together. To complete the colorful, rainbow windsocks, holes were punched at the top of the windsock to hang it from a string. These turned out so bright and beautiful! Great job, first graders!
