About this School Project (3-D Line Sculptures)
First grade artists began this project by studying lines. We discovered different kinds of lines including zig zag, straight, curly, curved, wavy, scalloped, diagonal, vertical, horizontal, looped, thin, thick, rough, smooth, and MANY more! We looked for lines in our environments to see that lines make up many things around us. Students then had to figure out how to manipulate paper. They learned how to fold, bend, twist, and curl it to make it into different kinds of lines. We used scraps of paper cut into strips and began creating. Their only rule was to use their imagination and to have patience as they glued down their different lines. These abstract pieces blossomed at the hands of some very creative first grade students!
