About this School Project (1st Grade Wayne Thiebaud Inspired Painting)
Students looked at several examples of Wayne Thiebaud's paintings, including a gumball machine, cake, lollipops, and an ice cream cone. Students used their thinking skills to identify the types of lines and shapes they would need to use to draw their own version! After focusing on line, shape, and space (3 of the elements of art), students then used watercolor and/ or tempera cake paints to add color! The students were practicing being responsible artists, making sure to mix colors on their paper, not in the paint trays so the paint colors stayed unmixed for future painting projects. Many students identified how proud they were of their paintings as they realized they could look at and recreate the lines and shapes needed to make various objects!
