About this School Project (2-B Ammonoidea Watercolors)
ABOUT AMMONOIDEA
Ammonoids are extinct animals that lived in marine environments. They are characterized by their ridged spiral shell. Though unknown, they are thought to have been great swimmers and may have even been able to shoot ink at predators. They were typically around 9 inches in diameter, but some species could grow to nearly 7 feet in diameter! We also learned about Mary Anning who was an English fossil collector, dealer, and palaeontologist. She was known around the world for finds that she made in Jurassic marine fossil beds in the cliffs along the English Channel.
To make our ammonoida art work, students drew the spiral shell and then outlined it with a white oil pastel. Next, they created a colorful shell with watercolors.
