About this School Project (1st grade Spring Still Life)
Students created a Still Life drawing of a flower from observation. Students looked at paintings by Georgia O'Keefe, known for her painting of flowers, and noticed how she zoomed in on small flowers and painted them large. In some paintings, she magnified her subject so much that they are no longer recognizable as flowers and begin to verge on abstraction with only colors and shapes. Students were asked to draw from observation and zoom in on flowers using oil pastel. Students were instructed to cover the entirety of their paper with oil pastel and pick 1 color for their background.
