About this School Project (A Bouquet of Flowers-Printmaking)
Kindergarten was introduced to the Cubist artist, Pablo Picasso. They watched a short video on his career. Next, we looked at his work titled, "A Bouquet of Peace" created in 1958. This was a lithograph print. We discussed printmaking, the transfer of an image from one surface to another. We began by students drawing 4 "pancake" shapes on top of each other. A fifth one was added but looks like it is falling off the stack. 5 lines were drawn from the bottom of the stack down to the bottom of the page and 5 were also drawn from the top going up and outward. Upper case D’s were added to the right side of the pancake shapes on the stack and on the left of the falling one. A line was drawn from the falling one to the bottom of the page. Students could now see this was a hand holding something. We added leaf shapes to the upper 5 lines. We then colored the hand, fingernails, stems and leaves. We used a pool noodle that was shaped like a flower cut into one-inch pieces to "print" flowers to the ends of the stems. Finally, paint sticks were used to fill in the center of each flower.
