About this School Project (Shapes & Shadows)
1st grade students learned about positive/negative space with this project. They cut shapes from the edge of their 'shadow' paper, being careful to cut them out as a complete shape. They used the white or colored paper for the background and glued down their black paper with the negative space to half of their background piece. It was challenging for them to 'flip' or 'somersault' their shapes and glue them down to create the shadows.
