About this School Project (4th Grade Pattern Spectrum Landscapes)
The fourth grade art classes learned how artists use size to create space and distance in landscapes. In the foreground objects are drawn largest because they are closest to the viewer. Objects in the middle ground are drawn smaller than in the foreground. Objects drawn in the background are drawn small to give the appearance of distance.

They began their drawings by drawing four levels to their landscapes; a foreground, middle ground background and a sky. They then filled in each level with different patterns and designs. We used artwork by the artist Robin Mead as inspiration for their drawings; check out her work online!

After outlining with permanent marker, they used markers, colored pencil and/or crayons to color their drawings. Some of the artists chose to paint in spectrum order, meaning they started with reds and purples at the bottom of their papers and blended up to yellows and oranges.
