About this School Project (2nd Grade Line Sculpture)
For this project we are going to take the lines off of the paper and make them fill space. Since our lines will go in all directions in SPACE we can consider them to be sculptures. This is a great place to experiment with how to make lines twist and bends and go in all kinds of directions.
We will start by making a base for our sculpture to stand. Kids in pods will use a dry hard clay, while those at home will probably have to improvise and use playdough or some sort of dry hard clay you can mix up for them. Be sure that the base is solid and wide so that it can hold up all of our different lines.
Next you will need a pile of chenille sticks (what we used to call pipe cleaners) in a variety of colors, sizes and textures. If you are home and don't have chenille sticks you can use twigs and pasta and wires and any other kind of "line" you can find. Then it is just fun to go crazy and make lines to add to the base. Remember all the different directions? (vertical, horizontal & diagonal) Sizes? (fat thin short long) and characters (curved, zig zag, twisted) you can make for your lines?
