About this School Project (3rd G Clay Creatures (Folded Form Technique))
3rd Grade classes explore two different clay modeling techniques. The first was using the 'Candy Bar' technique in white clay, followed by the 'Folded Form' technique in red clay. The second involves rolling out a clay slab, cutting out a flat animal form using a template and then folding the clay to make it 3 dimensional and adding details to individualize the creature.
After firing, the red clay is decorated in oil pastels and then dipped in black tempera paint to create a striking color contrast. To finish a coat of acrylic sealer is applied to protect the surface and give it a shine - which also enhances the color!
