About this School Project (1 - Snowflake Prints)
INTRO:
During this lesson, students learned about two different kinds of symmetry; bilateral and radial. They noted how people display bilateral symmetry or are the same on either side while an object like a snowflake, pizza or flower are the same around the center. They also learned about the printmaking art form. Printmaking consists of creating copies of an object using a medium that can be transferred. In this case, students used everyday tools and tempera paint to print images repeatedly in a symmetrical design.
PROJECT:
Students were first shown how to create a star shape on their paper with cardboard strips that they could use to help create the basis of their a symmetrical design. Next, they stamped cool colors using a variety of tools such as sponges, rakes, straws, marker caps and popsicle sticks and finally added a bit more pizzazz with gold paint.
