About this School Project (Matisse-Inspired Marker Prints)
In 1st grade, our second unit in art is all about shapes! For this project, we first learned the difference between geometric and organic shapes. Then, we looked at how the artist, Henri Matisse, used these shapes in his artworks. For our project, first graders made marker prints with different shapes as our subject. To do this, students drew geometric and organic shapes on a foam sheet with a pencil. Next, students colored their foam using washable marker. After, they used a sponge to dampen a piece of watercolor paper. And, finally, students "stamped" their marker drawing onto their paper to create their final print! To finish this project students chose 2 of their best prints and worked to add borders and a background for display. I think Mr. Matisse would be proud of their work!
