About this School Project (Kindergarten "Bird-ish" Paintings)
Students listened to Peter Reynold's book "Ish," which reminds us we can be artist and makers even if what we create does not look exactly like something real. It can be "ish."
Kindergarten artists then identified what types of lines or shapes they could use to make a bird. Students could choose various shapes or lines (or letters which are made up of lines and shapes!) to draw their own bird. After outlining it with sharpie, students practiced being responsible with tempera paint cakes. They swirled their brushes softly so they would not splash paint or water on other artists. Students also identified and demonstrated how to be responsible with liquid glue as they glued feathers and eyes onto their birds with small dots of glue!
While students were creating, they were working toward the following Ohio Visual Art standards:
3PR Discover, select and combine art and design elements to communicate subject matter in various visual forms.
4PE Distinguish between common visual art forms (e.g., painting, drawing, sculpture).
