About this School Project (1-2 Monsters Love School)
We first read the book, Monsters Love School to study all the different ways the illustrator designed his monsters. Students were then given a few different examples of bodies, arms, legs, and mouths to look at and discuss. Next, they went to work drawing their monster with oil pastels. They also added patterns to show more implied texture on their monster. Once finished, students practiced the wax-resist process by painting their monsters with watercolor. Lastly, we cut out our monsters and mounted them on black paper. All these monsters LOVE school!
