About this School Project (Getting-to-Know-You Line Sculptures)
Our first unit in second grade is line! For this project, second graders reviewed seven types of lines: horizontal, vertical, diagonal, wavy, zigzag, dotted, and spiral. After, we learned about sculpture and how we can make 2-D lines look 3-D. With the guidance of a worksheet, second graders created 3-D zigzag, spiral, and arched lines that represented them. For example, if students included one or more green zigzags in their sculpture, that represented any missing teeth they may have! When we were finished, we did a gallery walk around each room and talked about each project. Students identified one thing they learned about each artist from their sculpture, and the artist was able to share more about themselves. This sculpture project was an awesome way to start the year and get to better know the second graders in each class!
