About this School Project (K - Paul Klee Abstract Cats and Dogs)
INTRO: During this lesson, students were read the book The Cat and the Bird by Géraldine Elschner and Peggy Nile; a story inspired by the artwork “Cat and Bird, 1928 by Paul Klee. They discussed the artist’s abstract art in which an imaged is changed in some way from what it would normally look.
PROJECT: Students then created their own abstract cat or dog. First they traced a circle to give them a jumping off point for their animal, and then added details using a variety of shapes that are either similar or very different from what they would find on a real animal. They then used crayons to draw patterns with lively colors and to fill in their backgrounds.
