About this School Project (2H Monet Style Waterlily Ponds)
Students learned about the artist Claude Monet and his painting, Waterlily Pond. He was a French painter who loved to paint landscapes. He would paint the same landscape many times, in the summer mornings, in the fall afternoons, noticing how the light changed during different times.
He painted using dabs of color rather than smooth brushstrokes, letting our eyes mix the colors. Some people thought his artwork was terrible, even saying he painted like he was blind! He didn't give up and began working with other artists like him and called themselves "Impressionists"
We painted like Impressionists as we created our own waterlily ponds. We added a bridge, waterlilies, lily pads, and an animal or two that might live in our landscape. I love how these paintings seem to come to life!
