About this School Project (Realistic Animal Portraits)
During this unit about realistic drawing, 5th graders were introduced
to breaking down a picture into shapes. They were instructed to identify basic shapes in an image of an animal they chose and this is how they began their drawings. The original image was referred to the entire project.
After their drawing details, they used colored pencils and crayons to complete the colored details of the picture the best they could to achieve a color and value match. Value and shading techniques were discussed. The portraits turned out to be wonderful and they are currently displayed in the hallway outside the art room.
