About this School Project (2nd - Sea Turtles & Crabs)
Students in 2nd grade art learned new vocabulary and clay sculpture methods when creating these sea turtles and sea crabs. While watching videos of the turtles and crabs in action, students studied the shapes and movement of the creatures. They then took these observations and sculpted the many parts of their chosen creature. Students learned that the clay pieces must not be too thick nor too thin when attaching or the piece will crack and fall apart. After the turtles and crabs were fired once in the kiln, students glazed their sculptures in colors of their choice. Finally, the sculptures were fired again and revealed the stunning final artwork.
