About this School Project (1B Color Wheel)
Understanding the color wheel is the foundation for understanding all color combinations. The color wheel can be divided up into cool colors (red, orange and yellow) or warm colors (violet, blue, and green). You can look at the color wheel to find complementary colors that make each other brighter.
We focused on primary and secondary colors, drawing patterns in the colors of the rainbow with oil pastel to created a resist. Next we painted our primary colors (red, yellow, and blue) with watercolor paints. There are no colors that can be mixed to create a primary color so we used paint right from the tray.
Mixing two primary colors creates a secondary color. We created our secondary colors by mixing yellow and red for orange, yellow and blue for green, and red and blue for purple. Blending primaries to create secondaries took some thought and focus to do it right!
We continued adding to our color wheels by creating some sculptural elements with paper by folding, cutting, curling and twisting paper. Each paper strip was matched to its matching color on our color wheels. lastly, we reflected oun our work as we created a title for our matted work.
