About this School Project (Jim Dine Paintbrush Drawings)
After learning about the pop artist Jim Dine, students created an artwork that was similar to his Five Paintbrushes (fourth state) etching from 1973. Students first drew a minimum of five paintbrushes, keeping composition in mind. Then they outlined them in permanent marker to make their lines POP. Next they added a shadow to the side of each brush using compressed charcoal. The last step was to add liquid watercolors to the end of each brush. The watercolor was blown away from the brush using a straw and then more paint was splattered around the brushes.
