About this School Project (Greek Amphora)
Greek artists made many different types of pottery, but the most popular was the amphora. Amphoras are tall jars with two handles and a narrow neck. The students learned some Greek history and we discussed common Greek patterns. They were given 2 options for decorating their amphoras: they could cover it entirely in patterns, or they could use a combination of patterns with pictures about their lives, things they enjoy, or things that are important to them. We used black and brown markers to color our amphoras, as those were the 2 glaze options they used in ancient Greece. Students were also given the option to leave some areas white, for contrast.
Los artistas griegos hicieron muchos tipos diferentes de cerámica, pero el más popular fue el ánfora. Las ánforas son jarras altas con dos asas y un cuello estrecho. Los estudiantes aprendieron algo de historia griega y discutimos patrones griegos comunes. Se les dieron 2 opciones para decorar sus ánforas: podrían cubrirlo completamente con patrones, o podrían usar una combinación de patrones con imágenes sobre sus vidas, cosas que disfrutan o cosas que son importantes para ellos. Usamos marcadores negros y marrones para colorear nuestras ánforas, ya que esas eran las 2 opciones de esmalte que usaban en la antigua Grecia. A los estudiantes también se les dio la opción de dejar algunas áreas en blanco, para el contraste.
