About this School Project (1 - Scarecrows)
"INTRODUCTION: In order to get in the “mood” for this lesson, students were read the book “The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything” by Linda Williams. It is a fun book that engages kids with silly hand/body movements and singing. We then discussed why a scarecrow is used and how they are made.
PROJECT: Next, students followed a step-by-step lesson on how to draw a scarecrow while identifying lines and shapes that make up its details. They then added background details while referencing Ralph Masiello’s “Farm Drawing Book.” After a demonstration/discussion on drawing and painting techniques, students colored their drawings in with crayons and painted their skies with tempera paint."
