About this School Project (2 - Chalk Pastel Pumpkins)
During this lesson, students learned that artists create more realistic imagery on a two-dimensional surface by shading objects so that they appear three-dimensional. To practice shading, students used chalk pastel, an easily blended medium to create highlights, mid-tones and shadows. They learned chalk pastel techniques to help reduce smudging and learned how to overlap, layer and blend colors to create the illusion of form. Students then added imaginative details to decorate their pumpkins and backgrounds.
