About this School Project (Thing 1 and Thing 2)
Students folded their 9x12 paper in half vertically and then twice horizontally to give them grid lines for drawing. I guide their drawing but the students do not know what they are drawing and they are drawing upside down. The reason for this is so the left brain is frustrated and allows their right brain to follow the drawing process. When the drawing is completed, students turn their paper around to see what it is they have drawn. I had numbered the students off, 1 or 2, and depending on what number they were they were to draw mirror of the other. I hadn't realized this until I began to do the drawing myself that Thing 1 and Thing 2 are mirror images of each other. Students then outlined with marker, colored white crayon on the face and circle and then colored the shirt red. White crayon on the face is extremely important so that the blue paint from the hair does not stick to the face. Finally, we placed watered down blue paint around the edges of the head and blew the paint outward using straws.
