About this School Project (3rd Grade Animal Sculpture (Mrs. Jackson))
We continue to use our unit animal as our subject matter. Our learning objective is to create personally satisfying artwork using a variety of artistic processes and materials and to know the difference between 2D and 3D artwork.
We began by looking at Deborah Butterfield's horse sculptures and discussing how our knowledge of a piece of artwork can change the way we think about art.
We then drew our chosen animal from a variety of different views to get a 3D idea of what we want our sculpture to look like. I then demonstrated how to create a pinch pot and how for any animal the student has can start with a pinch pot and then they can add to it to create their animal. Requirements were that the sculpture should be balanced enough to stand or sit and solid enough not to break or fall apart.
