About this School Project (Swirling Leaf Designs, 3)
Third graders looked closely at colorful autumn leaves and practiced drawing what they saw, or "Right Brain" drawing. Close observation and very slow drawing of every bump and wrinkle and curve and crack along the edges of each leaf makes it possible to draw realistically.
Then, students painted their leaves with warm colors and practiced their brush technique to paint more precisely within the detail-rich leaf drawings.
In the background--or "negative space"--students used curving crayon lines to create a sense of swirling movement in their art.
***Ask your child to teach you how to "draw what you see", or draw "on the right side of your brain" using ordinary objects you find around your house or in your yard.
