About this School Project (4th - Keith Haring People in Motion)
Students in 4th grade learned about the life and work of the Pop artist, Keith Haring. Haring is a world-known artist who became famous with his New York subway drawings in the 1980’s, with his work eventually shown in museums and galleries everywhere.
As a class, we observed the memorable characteristics of his work including bold outlines, bright colors, and cartoon-like shapes for his people and other subjects. 4th graders also took notice of the angles and movement of the characters’ limbs—always looking like they were in motion.
In small groups, students were asked to collaborate and create their own unique scenes out of “people in motion” in the style of Keith Haring’s work, demonstrating their learning and understanding of Haring’s pop-art style work. Their scenes of people dancing, jumping, swimming, etc. are truly one of a kind.
