About this School Project (Pinch Pots)
Kindergartners learned all about clay! We all guessed where we thought clay came from and were surprised that it came straight from the earth! We also learned about and discussed all of the stages of clay and what the kiln is. The kiln is like a GIANT oven just for our clay pieces to bake in. It has to stay on for almost the entire school day and gets way hotter than our kitchen oven at home. For our project we learned how to stick our thumb down in a ball of clay and pinch along the outside. This is why it is called a pinch pot. This was hard and a lot of exercise for our little fingers. When Our pinch pots dried and were out of the kiln, we painted them with 3 coats of glaze to put back into the kiln. Look how shiny!
