About this School Project (Animal Paintings)
Second grade students created animal paintings from observation. This was the culminating lesson for a unit on animals. First, they created sketchbooks depicting several animals. They concentrated on the combination of shapes needed to draw each animal. Secondly, they chose one animal to create an oil pastel drawing and added texture for the fur or feathers. Then they created animal paintings, focusing on painting large and mixing tints and shades to represent the colors of the animals. They added patterned backgrounds using glitter watercolor paints.
