Artist Statement (what Lyra106 said about their artwork)
A long, long time ago before the world, there were aliens and unicorns. They lived on a planet called Peace. Everybody lived in peace. On the planet Peace, they would sit for five hours. Then they sleep for the rest of the day.
About this School Project (Kahn and Selesnick Dioramas)
This was a multi-step project, and I am very proud of the 2/3's for how well they did with it! To begin the project we looked at photographs created by Richard Selesnick and Nicholas Kahn. The students really enjoyed these photographs because they were quirky and showed alien like figures living on Mars. Each student was then able to decide whether they wanted to depict the world at the beginning or end of human existence. They sketched out their ideas, along with a story to accompany it. The students then got to experiment with many of the materials in the art room to figure out what they wanted to use for their project. Then they finally got to begin building their dioramas! As they built I worked one on one with students to photograph them in poses that fit their story. The students had to decide which angle we were going to photograph their diorama from, and therefore which angle we would photograph them from. I printed the pictures out small, they cut themselves out, and placed them inside their dioramas. These are the photographs that they helped take of themselves inside their dioramas!
