About this School Project (Gyotaku Underwater Prints)
Students learned about the process of Japanese fish printing called Gyotaku. Fishermen would put ink on their fresh catches and make a print of them to document size and type of fish. Students created an underwater scene with oil pastel then they painted a water color wash over top for the resist effect. After they finished their underwater scene, they made a print with a little rubber fish to emulate the fish printing process.
