Artist Statement (what Naomi1975 said about their artwork)
My theme is Disney. For everything in the city I thought of everything I could from Disneyland to anything else Disney. For commercial buildings, I thought of Disney Clothiers on Main Street USA and the Dole Whip stand in Adventure Land. For things that are recreational I thought of Matterhorn Bobsleds in Fantasy Land of Disneyland and the Rabbit Hole from Alice in Wonderland. For Residential buildings I thought of toon town from Disneyland, but recreated the houses. And for commemorative I thought of the "Partners" Statue at the end of Main Street. The perspective methods I used were overlapping, texture/detail, and lines. My favorite part of this art piece is the sign in the front that says "Nowhere In Particular" because I love the Adventures of Mr.Toad movie and ride from Disneyland, I thought it was nice fun detail to add to the art work. If I could change something in this piece of art I would change my mistake of the path. I was gonna make a sky (like in the picture now) but I made the path extend from bottom to top.
About this School Project (City of My Own)
Students created a themed city based on their interests. Students included commercial, recreational, residential and commemorative buildings/structures. Students also learned about 6 methods to showing perspective including converging lines, changing the size of objects, overlapping objects, placement on the page, more details up close and fading of color as it recedes in the distance. Students used watercolor techniques to add color to their cities.
