About this School Project (5th - Ceramic Gargoyles)
Students discussed gargoyles and their original use as rainspouts on gothic cathedrals. They looked at examples of different gargoyles on buildings as well as in popular culture. After creating a sketch of their initial idea they created a high-relief ceramic gargoyle with exaggerated facial features and at least two hand-building techniques. After the gargoyles were fired in the kiln they were then painted with watered down black to give them a stone-like look.
