About this School Project (Eric Carle Ocean Collage)
First grade students explored the art element texture. Texture describes how something feels. After examining real textures and describing implied textures, students used multiple techniques to create their own textures. We scratched into wet paint, created a wax resist, printed with sponges and fingerprints, and daubed paint into wet paint . Then we cut the textures into shapes and glued them together to create these fantastic underwater collages. The class field trip to the aquarium and the beautiful illustrations in Eric Carle’s book Mr. Seahorse inspired our work.
