About this School Project (Kindergarten Japanese Fish Prints)
In support of a homeroom study of the ocean, traditional Japanese fish prints, Gyotaku, were examined. In the past, fishermen would create prints of fish as a means of recording their catch. First, blue background was watercolored onto paper. Next, fish were chosen and painted with black paint. Finally, the fish were carefully pressed on to the blue-painted paper and removed leaving the print.
