About this School Project (2nd G Self portrait puppets)
As a community building project at the beginning of the school year, the 2nd grade students were asked to create a self portrait puppet. On one side of the puppet would be a traditional head and shoulders self portrait on the other they were asked to depict something about themselves that they would like to share with their classmates. They might choose people, places or things they care about or activities they enjoy. The two sides were sketched first in pencil ,then emphasized in Sharpie and finally colored with markers. the students then constructed the puppet using a large colored popsicle stick. The final step was to create a setting/background for their puppet story and to share that with a classmate (or two!)
