About this School Project (Bwa Plank Masks)
Before Halloween, we usually look at how different cultures use masks and compare their appearances materials and purposes to those for masks In the USA. First graders observed the plank masks used by the Bwa (Bobo-Ule) people from Birkina Faso in central Africa. They enjoyed using paper and marker to make shapes and lines as well as rafia to make their versions of these ethnic masks. Please make comments on these masks to encourage the young artists.
