About this School Project (Grade 5 Two Minute Masterpieces)
As an exercise to get the class to sketch out ideas quickly and off the top of their head, we did this little exercise. We took a concept and listed all of the descriptive words we could think of for it on the board. Then the students had two minutes to do a 3" x 4" drawing of that concept. The concepts we selected were New Jersey, New York, the tropics and the north pole. When all four drawings were completed, the students went back and colored them in. The class then asked about creating a 3D project, so they were asked to select the best two of their drawings and enlarge them to 9 x 12". The finished drawings would be cut and mounted in a way to appear somewhat three dimensional. The enlargements can be seen in this exhibit, while the completed three dimensional versions are in a separate exhibit.
