I liked that we got to put our own stamps on it.
About this School Project (Adinkra With Sole)
Students learned about the adinkra (good-bye) cloth made by the Akan people of Ghana and the Ivory Coast of West Africa. Instead of the carved calabash stamps used by these people, we heated pen-score foam and stepped on these to reproduce the textures on the soles of their shoes for our stamps. They learned how to tap their stamps on the ink pads to better ink the surface of the stamp, then stamped a row of their shoe texture. To complete their adinkra, they traded stamps with each other and stamped other classmates' shoe textures on their cloth.
