About this School Project (2nd Grade - Room Floor Plan)
Second grade first began the new unit "Art is Everywhere" by studying architecture. We learned that artists can shape the world around us, including the homes we live in and the buildings where we work. Second graders learned that before buildings can even be constructed, they must first have blueprints and floor plans as a guide to work from. Using this knowledge, students designed a floor plan/blueprint of a room in their home. We started by drawing the basic shape of the room with pencil and rulers to draw the lines straight. Then, thinking about how objects look from bird's eye view, students used simple shapes to represent each piece of furniture. Details on the floor patterns, bedsheets, tables, etc. were then added. Everything was traced with Sharpie markers. Finally, students colored their design completely using their choice of crayons, colored pencils, or markers.
