Artist Statement (what Evelyn10468 said about their artwork)
I chose a peony. The peony is symbolic of compassion and good relationships. This symbolism is important to me because I think that having good relationships is the key to life. I chose Art Nouveau. I included lots of curvy lines, like the little indents on the edges along with the leaves, and made my flower have all different petals, none being the same. I chose green for my glaze. Green symbolizes new beginnings, growth, love, hope and peace. This symbolism is important to me because all of these are important to have.
About this School Project (6 - Symbolic Botanical Relief Tiles)
Sixth grade artists learned about the Art Nouveau and Art Deco movements. They chose a plant to sketch in both styles before choosing one to transform into a clay botanical tile, using both low and high relief. Then, students chose a symbolic color to glaze their clay with.
