About this School Project (D.C. Cityscape)
Students in third grade started the year with a painting of our city, using a technique called atmospheric perspective. Students have used lines to create perspective in the past, but this time discovered that you can create a similar illusion of space by changing the value of a color. After using a ruler to create city buildings and D.C. landmarks, third grade artists practiced mixing tints and shades of a color with acrylic paint. They were tasked with making sure the further away their building was, the lighter the color would appear. We discussed craftsmanship, and what it means to be finished with a work of art.
DCPS Scope and Sequence points met:
-Demonstrate an ability to organize defined space through understanding of foreground and background
-Create visual texture through blending, mixing, and layering color
