Artist Statement (what Shivani343 said about their artwork)
I made a mandala that looks like a flower. I made it using maroon and light pink sharpie. I started with the frottage technique that Mrs. Hebert showed us in class. I then went mostly with whatever I thought would look best, but also used inspiration for many shapes from the worksheet we did a couple weeks ago. I think the petals amd putting the spirals in between the flower petals worked well. Something that was initially challenging was making the flower petals even, but I tried my best to fix it by putting spirals in between them to make it look better. On a scale of 1-10, I'd rate my piece an 8. I like the colors and shapes I used. If I were to do better, I would try to add more intricate designs in the future.
About this School Project (Frottage Mandalas)
Students learn about Tibetan Buddhist sand painters, and create their own intricately patterned mandala. Students begin with a frottage technique to establish radial balance. They use a color scheme and develop a vocabulary of repeated shapes to layer and repeat patterns.
